ABSTRACT
M odern G reek belongs to the Hellenic branch of Indo-European. It is the official language of Greece, where it is spoken by over 10 million people, and joint official language of Cyprus; in addition, there are large Greek-speaking communities in many countries. A dialect of Greek is still spoken in few villages in Calabria.
