ABSTRACT
Preventive conservation seeks to ensure that expensive and complex remedial conservation is not required for the future and is an important aspect of sustainability. It can therefore be seen as a form of insurance policy against incurring costs in the future. Preventive conservation and security go hand-in-hand in ensuring the long-term well-being and safeguarding of collections.
