ABSTRACT
Poor handling or inadequate packing is often the cause of damage to geological specimens. Specimens should be placed in trays or in acetate topped boxes so that they are held gently but firmly, and cannot knock or rub against each other. Acid-free tissue paper can be used for additional packing. Drawers in cabinets should be of a size that allows them to be easily lifted when full of specimens.
