ABSTRACT

One way of helping to create a good atmosphere is to use some of the furnishings and decorations traditional in your country. For example, mosques and houses in the Middle East often have floors covered with rugs that help make them feel much more welcoming than museums with cold hard floors. In cold countries, an open fire or traditional stove will instantly make a room seem welcoming – though there may be strong conservation reasons against them! In many countries the display of flowers or plants is customary in both private houses, shops and offices; they too make a museum seem more homely.
