ABSTRACT
The creation of a forward plan is a method of bringing all those working for the museum together with a common purpose and provides a framework for a programme of action to drive the museum forward. As we have seen in Unit 80, a forward plan must derive from the museum’s mission and policies. The plan will describe:
• the mission of the museum; • a synopsis of its historical development; • its current context; • its policies and the strategic objectives derived from them; • its programme(s) of action to meet those objectives; • its resources and their use; • and the methods by which it will monitor progress and evaluate the impact
of its work.
