ABSTRACT

Typically, psychologists have addressed more individually based issues, such as psychological and social psychological correlates of behaviour, with less emphasis being placed on wider environmental and policy environments. The place of individual psychological approaches alongside these others is shown in Figure P2.1. To understand physical activity fully, we need to combine knowledge across these different environments, although the emphasis in this book is firmly psychological. Nevertheless, we do address social and environmental correlates of physical activity in Chapter 7, and have provided some policy background in Chapter 1.
