ABSTRACT
it is clear that learning to teach involves more than the mastery of a limited set of competences. It is a complex process. It is also a lengthy process, extending, for most teachers, well after their initial training. The multidimensional nature of learning to teach has often not been fully recognized in the design of initial teacher education courses, which are often tightly constrained in terms of both time and human resources.
