ABSTRACT
Syrian playwright and actor. Born and died in Damascus. Either the Governor Subhī Pasha (1872-3) or Midhat Pasha (1878-9), having seen one of his plays, is said to have encouraged him to perform in public; the latter asked Iskandar Farah, a Customs clerk, to form a troupe with him.
