al-Sayyid Abū al-Fayd Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Razzāq al-Murtadā al-Zabīdī, Arabic lexicographer. Born in the Northwest Province of India, al-Zabīdī was the author of the largest surviving Arabic dictionary, the Tāj al-'arūs min jawāhir al-Qamus, which he began in 1174/1760 and finished in 1188/1774 (published editions, Cairo, 1889-90, reprinted several times; Kuwait, 1965- ).
