ABSTRACT

Exposure-based therapies are commonly used to treat symptoms of trauma and anxiety. This chapter takes a critical view of clinical procedures using exposure. It covers topics such as extinction, habituation, and sensitization and discusses the therapies of Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, Hypnosis and other imagery-based procedures, Traumatic Incident Reduction, Prolonged Exposure and a cognitive model for treating PTSD including Cognitive Processing Therapy. These therapies are compared and contrasted with Holographic Reprocessing.
