ABSTRACT
Many of the environmental hazards discussed in Chapter 26 exert a direct or indirect effect on the health and well-being of urban dwellers. Here we focus on the causes, differential incidence and socio-spatial consequences of ill health within Third World cities. We examine the diseases of the urban poor and the nature and effectiveness of the principal health-care responses.
