ABSTRACT
Students often get confused between the definitions of conservation and preservation. This is often reinforced by the interchangeable use of the terms in the popular media. Reference to Box 16.31 should be emphasized by the instructor and a consideration of other non-biotic examples would be useful, e.g. historic buildings, cultural practices, etc.
