ABSTRACT
According to the Timaeus, Atlantis was lost in a major geological convulsion, a series of earthquakes accompanied by a massive subsidence that took the land area below sea level. The longer and more detailed account in the Critias promises more detail on the destruction, but breaks off just before Zeus passes sentence on the ancient civilization.
