ABSTRACT

The word ‘curriculum’ is often used narrowly as synonymous with the programmes of study in the core and foundation subjects. However, it can also describe the whole sum of school activities — intentional and unintentional — not just the explicitly didactic bits in the classroom. Educationists have created libraries of books which consider what the curriculum is, and this is not the place to review that literature. Instead, for our purposes, curriculum will be defined in its widest sense — everything that is meant to happen in the school.
