ABSTRACT
Poverty is primarily due to socio-structural conditions and to the level of social and economic development reached by agriculture and the rural areas. Of the world’s poor, 80 per cent (about 1 billion people) live in rural areas – 75 per cent in Asia, about 85 per cent in Africa.
