ABSTRACT

This book has provided a summary of the body of texts here called ‘The Douglas/New Age texts’, placing them in historical context. We contend that the body of economic

theory outlined here merits further exploration in view of the social and ecological crises of the end of the century. Mass unemployment, Third World poverty and worldwide environmental degradation were predicted by the Douglas/New Age texts. The alternative economic theory they represented in the years immediately following World War I, subsequently developed to some degree in the 1920s and 1930s, has not been outdated by the passage of time.
