ABSTRACT

The quest of all scientific enquiry, no matter how indirecdy, is to gain some insight about the future. In the case of human society it is difficult enough to understand what has happened, let alone to make predictions about what will happen. But if we are to make the correct decisions in the future on the big issues, then we must be able to make predictions. The problem is that, if we fail to understand the past, or neglect even to consult it seriously, then the future will always remain a mystery. A closed door. Only by employing the forces underlying the dynamics of human society can we hope to open that door a little and catch a glimpse of what lies beyond.
