ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with windows and doors, the two main external fabric components that have moving parts. It addresses the typical problems associated with these two important products.

Decay of timber external joinery by wet-rot fungi has been widely reported in recent years and has affected many comparatively new properties (Figure 12.1). Both rain and internal condensation have been the sources of moisture which caused decay. Rain penetration at window and wall intersections has not been uncommon.
