ABSTRACT
It is always somewhat venturesome to title a chapter ‘The future of . . .’. What we offer here is a somewhat tendentious extrapolation of current trends. More so than in other chapters, we take positions which are often hypothetical. The function in the context of a textbook is to trigger debate while making use of the frameworks and concepts of the previous chapters. Crystal ball gazing is a good way to challenge our thinking, but it comes with a disclaimer: it isn’t necessarily so.
