ABSTRACT

One of the most onerous responsibilities of the class teacher is to be vigilant for, and appropriately responsive to, the recognition of signs and symptoms suggesting possible child abuse. However, some teachers have not been equipped with adequate pre-or in-service training in areas associated with the recognition of these signs and symptoms, and the referral procedures associated with them. When the concerns of the teacher are aroused they are likely to be confronted with the perplexing dilemma about whether or not to share their concerns with others.
