ABSTRACT
Before embarking on the main part of the analysis, there are a number of prior issues that need to be clarified, by way of ground-clearing. These derive from the conceptual and perceptual confusions that have arisen in comparative rental housing research as a result of the combination of the ethnocentricity and theoretical under-development that characterises housing research in general.
