ABSTRACT

Amnesty International has described the situation in Tajikistan in the period since the start of factional violence in May 1992 as a human rights disaster. Furthermore, this has been a disaster which has been largely ignored by the rest of the world. Appalling human rights abuses by the parties involved have been alleged throughout the armed conflict in Tajikistan, and are continuing. However, informa tion about the true extent of those abuses remains far from complete.
