ABSTRACT
The study of Japanese direct investment overseas is particularly rewarding because such investment has been of comparatively recent origin. It has thus been feasible to trace the internationalisation of the Japanese economy, and of various firms within it, from the early years to the present. As a result it has been possible to put the flow of Japanese direct investment to the United Kingdom in wider context.
