ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the attitudes of Libyan university students towards and the engagement with, political participation Libyan university students will be examined. The term 'political participation' is used in this study to refer to 'the act of taking part in the formulation, passage or implementation of public policies. This applies to the activities of any person, whether an elected politician, a government official or an ordinary citizen, who is active in any way in the production of policy within any type of political system.'l Most of the literature on political participation deals with systems where there is competition between parties, and is therefore not very relevant for our purposes here?
