ABSTRACT

The elementary families of orientation and procreation exist among the Chinese and constitute the nuclear elements around which extensive and elaborate kinship relations are formed. The families of procreation and orientation are fundamental factors in the formation of the personality of ego in his kinship system or cluster. He is born in his family group but oriented by it to the kinship organization. He is related, for instance, to his father in his patrilineal clan, and in an affmed relation to his mother's clan.
