ABSTRACT
The gods were masters of the weather, and thus responsible for the growth of plants. Often, the gods themselves were landowners; they could also own cattle. They received a large share of their offerings in the form of agricultural products. For that reason, this section will discuss how the individual farmer and the city-state as a community and agricultural society administered their relation to the gods.
