ABSTRACT
T h e expedition to survey and excavate i n south-west T u r k e y was made possible by the generous help of M r Francis Nelson , a L i v e r p u d l i a n who had migrated to A m e r i c a when a boy and made a fortune. Generously and spontaneously he offered to finance Professor Garstang 's work there when he had had to close down his work in Palestine owing to the troubles.
