ABSTRACT

A key element in the Saudi Arabian government’s economic strategy is industrial diversification, a process which has as its primary objective the reduction of the Kingdom’s dependence on oil revenues. This chapter looks at various aspects of this strategy and provides statistics which give some measure of the achievements to date. Such a subject merits a book of its own but it is hoped that this brief survey of the main areas of industrial activity will at least indicate the the scale and the scope of the industrialization process.
