ABSTRACT

Snacks like this are sold along the sides of the street in all southern Ghanaian towns and in many villages. Groundnuts in all forms are sold throughout the day. Depending on how much one wants to spend, the seller (always a woman or child) will scoop up the required amount onto a square of old Daily Graphic, add a 'dash' (an extra amount), and screw up the paper. The usual thing to eat with roasted groundnuts is banana or roasted plantain. The plantain is roasted at the roadside on a makeshift charcoal burner. Plantain and groundnuts make an excellent lunch, as many Ghanaian office workers seem to have discovered.
