ABSTRACT
The most important feature of the royal city is, of course, the palace itself. As the residence of the
king, it was not only the focus of the community, but also the very basis for its existence. Because of
its functional and symbolic importance, one might expect that the palace and its immediate
surroundings would reflect any standardized planning that may have been inherent in these royal
settlements.
