ABSTRACT

Fragments of glass were found in a stratum dated to the 14th century during excavations carried out at Fort Canning in 1987, 1988 and 1990. X-ray fluorescence analysis of the glass indicated that the fragments can be divided into four groups based on their principal components. These groups correspond with four different types of objects: irregularly-shaped globules, sherds of thin-walled containers, beads, and fragments of bangles. The analysis suggests that glass sherds where remolded into bangles in 14thcentury Singapore, [mk]
