Withincreasingglobalisation,awiderangeofresourcesandrelatedcustomaryproperty
rightsinthesouth-westernPacificareundersustainedthreat.PapuaNewGuinea[PNG],like someothercountriesintheSouthPacific,explicitlyrecognisestheimportanceofcustomary
resourceandpropertyrightsinitsnationalconstitution.Suchrecognitionisenshrinedand
supported-atleastintheory-inavarietyofways,buthowandhowconsistentlysuch
recognitionisappliedvariesagreatdealinpractice.
