ABSTRACT

THEREwasaconsiderableamountofsicknessintheR.A.F.camp atthistimeandthehospitalwasfullwithseveralcasesofmalaria anddysentery.Inspiteoftheheat,withanaveragedailytemperatureofII0°F.,therewerestillanumberofstagnantpoolsin thedesert,theremnantsofthefloods.Stringentanti-malarial measuresweretakenbySquadron-LeaderCranley,andenforced bytheMedicalOfficer,Flight-LieutenantCargill,andsquadsof menequippedwithdrumsofoilweredetailedtosprayallpuddles andreceptaclesholdingwater.Themenwereaisoobligedto weartrousersandlong-sleevedshirtsafterdusk,andrealistic propagandafilmsdepictingthedangerscausedtohealthbynot takingproperprecautionsagainstfliesandmosquitoes,wereshown attheopen-aircinema.
