ABSTRACT

Now a sufficiently full description hath been written above concerning the injuries which happen to the brain, which is the primary source of the senses (or, feelings), which are effected by the front cavitie::~ of the brain, and concerning the ailments of the nostrils which are its instrument, and conc~rning the symptoms of the same, and concerning the means that are suitable for effecting the cure of each one of them. It is therefore right for us to teach here concerning the sense (or, faculty) of sight, which is the second [in importance] after breathing (now the sense of sight is effected through the brain by means of the first exit of the nerves I which come Page 68 from the brain, over which the power of sight passeth, and by means of the composition and placing of the various parts of the eyes), and concerning all the injuries which happen to them, and concerning the symptoms of the same, and concerning the means to be employed in effecting their cure.
