ABSTRACT

EGYPTIAN MUMMIES been demonstrated in a novel way by Mr. W. J. Perry in his book on The Origin of Magic and Religion (p. 68). Contrasting the earliest beliefs of Egypt, Sumer, and Crete, he finds that in the two latter (where embalming was not practised in early times) there is no trace of the conception of immortality such as was being shaped in Egypt in close correlation with the ideas suggested by the practices for rendering the body imperishable and everlasting.
