ABSTRACT
For the most part masochism is an individual affair. In its true psychopathological sense it is obviously not a phenomenon that can be induced in any ordinary way in masses of people. It takes a movement like the flagellation cult of the Middle Ages to arouse any such feelings on a wholesale scale.
