ABSTRACT
AllTibetanguruswho·arefamiliarwithPho-wa,either theoreticallyorpractically,areagreedthat,becauseinprac· ticeitmayreadilybeabusedbyunprincipledandfaithless disciples,itsappliedtechniqueoughtnevertobetaughtto anysavethosewhohavebeenlongonprobationandbeen foundworthy.Accordingly,itisassumedthatallrecorded teachingsconcerningPho-wa,suchasthesecontainedinour owntexts,willbestudiedandputtothetestofpracticeonly underthepersonalguidanceofalivingguruwhohasalready masteredthemandisqualified,invirtueofhavingreceived theappropriateinitiations,tosupplytheirnecessaryamplificationsanddetailedexplication.
