ABSTRACT

T RANSJORDAN, like western Palestine, contains traces of palaeolithic occupation, and at Kilwa in eastern Transjordan a large number of very ancient (Natujian) rock-drawings are superimposed on still earlier ones, while there are also others of chalcolithic date. At Tuleilat Ghassul frescoes of chalco lithic origin, having similarities with pre dynastic Egyptian culture, have been discovered, and megalithic structures (dolmens) and stone-circles (gil gals) are more common than west of the Jordan (photos. 130, 131).
