ABSTRACT

ENTRUSTED by Napoleon with the measuring of the meridian, Arago was in 1808 in Majorca on the mountain known as Clot de Galatzo, when he received the news of the happenings in Madrid and of the removal of Ferdinand. The indignation of the Majorcan people was so great that it was decided to seize and kill the French scientist, and a crowd set off accordingly towards the Clot.
