WE have now finished the history of the Churches of Eastern Christendom, orthodox and heretical. But there remains a body of Eastern Christians known as Uniates: of whqm, if this book is to be complete, we must give a brief account. Brief it must be: but fuller detail may be found in the writings of the late Dr. Adrian Fortescue, a ripe scholar with a lively style. His sympathies in respect of the Orthodox1 are limited, though he has some compassion for the Lesser Eastern Churches.2 But he is whole-hearted in his championship of the Uniates;3 and defends them against detractors, Latin or Anglican.
