ABSTRACT

The lower storey of the wing of the main building contains the refectory in the centre of which is a seat for the lector, raised on a dais before the altar of Buddha. There are four loug, solid tahles, set with bowls and chopsticks for thirty-four monks and lay brethren. Leading out of the dining haII on the south side is the guest receptiop. room, where an excelIent vegetarian meal may be obtained. The walIs are decorated with scrolIs, and specimens of calligraph v executed hy the fraternity, and there is a large portrait of a deceased abbot. The brother who entertains guests is a recent refugee from China.
