ABSTRACT
These hats serve as a protection against the rain as well as the sun, and obviate the use of an umbrella. As a waterproof the peasants adopt a sort of cloak and skirt made of superimposed palm leaves reminiscent of the goat-skins of Robinson Crusoe. They give better protection than those of plastic, are cooler, and last longer, but they are more expensive.
