ABSTRACT
AFTER the flurry of patriotic and topical interest in the pictures of the Spanish.American war the motion picture industry fell into decline in the United States. The screen had nothing to say. The novelty of pictures that moved was gone. Authorship was lacking. The potentialities of the screen art were as pigment on the palette with no artist to transfer them to canvas.
