ABSTRACT
WHEN the World War erupted in August 1914 the motion picture industry, just emerging into a career on Broadway, was not even slightly shocked. The institution of the screen was not yet closely enough organized to have a responsive nervous system. The films were aware of the war only from minor, casual and incidental effects.
