ABSTRACT
Such service may take many different forms. It may consist of any duty ranging from loading work at a rear depot to close combat in the front line. It is important to realize that what is required of actual front line combatants has increased, since the levee en masse of the French Revolution, in a manner never expected or known before. As long as nationalistic feelings prevail, a significant decrease cannot be expected.
