Barring unforseen circumstances, Manila is on the verge of recording the second major victory against a Maoist insurgency in the post-Vietnam War era. The previous win was that of the Thai1. Ironically, as was true in Thailand so has it been the case in the Philippines: government-led 'people's war' has mortally wounded the Maoist-inspired effort by the communists to seize state power.
