ABSTRACT

Aid conditionalities refer to the terms specified by a donor in order to govem aid flows to a recipient country. Instances of unconditional aid are almost non-existent. Both the form and content of these conditions have changed over the last decades. The international community now broadly agrees on the need for consistent conditions vvhich determine the nature and composition of aid and the development goals of recipient countries. Bangladesh has received aid from many different donors for over three decades. This chapter analyses the extent to which donor conditionalities can be regarded as consistent with the development goals of Bangladesh.
