ABSTRACT

Our initial hypothesis was that national parliaments would respond to moves toward European integration by undertaking some institutional change. What is apparent from the papers in this volume is that the national parliaments of the Member States of the EU have undergone institutional change in response to the development of the European Community/Union. What is notable is the stage at which that adaptation has taken place. It constitutes a middle stage in the developing relationship between national parliaments and the moves towards European integration.
