ABSTRACT
THE YEARS 1945 to 1950 represent a curious period in the British colonial world. Labour had come to power in England. At the beginning of its tenure many colonial administrators viewed a Labour government with considerable mistrust. Expecting some rather wild departure from the past, they anticipated that the Labour Party would be irresponsible in its colonial policy.
