ABSTRACT

Lutfi al-Khuli saw three main differences between socialism as developed in Egypt and socialism in other countries. 1 First, the Egyptian road towards socialism sees the class struggle as one which would peacefully be resolved. Second, socialism in Egypt sees religion as a great spiritual power which aims at liberating mankind and dispensing social justice. And third, this socialism is based upon a revolutionary alliance between the people's forces, and not upon an alliance of the working class alone. The ‘Alliance of the People's Forces' will lead to the formulation and realisation of a socialist democracy and the development of a socialist economy.
